Directors Notes: Beit T’Shuvah

Directors Notes

While I was producing Soul Sanctuary at Beit T’Shuvah I noticed a lot of copies of the book God’s Search for Man by Rabbi Joshua Abraham Heschel.  I read this very inspirational book which is discussed by residents at Beit T’Shuvah. I also learned to appreciate the healing that T’Shuvah could provide as a daily spiritual exercise of examination of consciousness and taking responsibility.

After a few visits I found that both Rabbi Mark and Harriet each wrote autobiographies.  Rabbi Mark’s is called the “Holy Thief” and Harriet’s book is called “Sacred Housekeeping” .  They have come to their mission at Beit T’Shuvah through suffering, reflection, redirecting their lives to right action, and an immense love for which they share with their community and the world.

I am filled with gratitude for their wisdom.  The months spent on producing this film has given me the opportunity to read and re read the transcripts allowing messages to take root.  My pursuit of their messages. and my own search for connection is the reward, and I am looking toward sharing this gift with the world.
